JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Thousands of students of 28 schools in eastern Nangarhar province were given stationery in cooperation with a Japanese aid organization, an official said on Monday.
Nangarhar Education Department spokesman Farhad Ahmad Stanikzai told Pajhwok the students were distributed stationery in Achin district by a Japanese charity United Medical Center for Afghans (UMCA).
He said 7,995 students were given school bags, books and colored pencils and each student received a box, two books and five colored pencils.
Stanikzai said the said organization a few days ago assisted 45 schools in the district with blackboards and mates for students to sit.
He said the Japanese organization was busy providing similar assistance in other districts of Nangarhar to encourage children to study.
