PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): A number of farmers in northern Baghlan province say that sever cold wave has destroyed wheat crops on thousands of acres of land.

Wali Mohammad, a resident of Shamroq area of Pul-i-Khumri city, told Pajhwok Afghan News the cold wave wiped out wheat crops on his 10 acres of land.

He said he suffered 250,000 afghanis due to the cold weather, urging the agriculture department and donor agencies to support affected farmers in the province.

Mohammad Rasoul, a farmer of Baghlan-i-Markazi district, told Pajhwok that he had cultivated wheat on two acres of land but all of the crops ruined by the cold wave.

Ahmad Zia Habibi, an official of the agriculture department, said the wheat crops in the province was ruined by the cold snap but they had not yet received accurate figures about the losses incurred on farmers.

He told Pajhwok that farmers from Baghlan-I-Markazi and Pul-i-Khumri had shared their problems in written with agriculture department to receive assistance and consultation.

According to him, about 18,000 tons of wheat obtained from 87,000 hectares of land in the province last year.
