Badghis Kandalan locality residents deprived of telecom facility

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Some residents of Kandalan area in northwestern Badghis province have complained against the none-availability of telecommunication service and asked relevant authorities to address their problem.

Kandlan locality is situated 20 kilometres from Qala-i-Naw, the provincial capital, where around 2,000 families have been living and have no access to telecommunication services.

Bismillah, the resident of Chashma Sanjd locality, told Pajhwok Afghan News he travel one hour on feet to reach to a location where mobile signals are available.

Mohammad Noor, the resident of Angirak locality also complained against the lack of telecommunication service and said he had to walk for 50 minutes in order to find mobile signals.

He asked the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and other relevant authorities to install mobile signals towers.

Mohammad another resident of the area, said they shared their issue with the government authorities but no action had been taken so far.

“During emergency situation we had to climb mountains to get signals, we ask the government to address our problems.”

Allauddin Rohani, head of the Afghanistan Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (ATRA), acknowledged problems in the area of telecommunication in Badghis and added due to mountainous terrain in the province the telecommunication facility has been provided to all the areas.

He said currently 60 percent people in Badghis had access to telecommunication service and added after receiving application from the local people they will act for the installation of telecom towers.

This comes that most people in Badghis have no access to basic services and people in the provincial capital and other areas also complained against the quality of telecom services.
