PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock says about 100 honey bee farms are being created at a cost of 136,000 US dollars in central Logar province.
Maulvi Syed Amin Hashami, the department director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the bee farms were being established with financial support of the United Nations for 47 needy women and 53 needy men in center Pul-i-Alam, Mohammad Agha, Baraki Barak, Sarkh and Khwakhi districts.
He said honeybee-keeping materials worth $136,000 were distributed to these families amid efforts to make these farms standard.
On the other hand, Rahimullah, one of the aid recipients, told Pajhwok the Department of Agriculture should train them in beekeeping, protection and harvesting honey.
Balqees, a resident of Pul-i-Alam, told Pajhwok that her husband died in the past war and her economic situation was not good, but now the Department of Agriculture had built a bee farm for her.
She hoped that the farm would solve most of her economic problems in the future.
It comes a week after honeybee farms were built for dozens of people in Laghman province.
