JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Japanese ambassador to Afghanistan Takayoshi Kuromiya met with local officials and reassured his country’s continued assistance with Afghanistan in agriculture and other fields during a visit to eastern Nangarhar province.
The provincial media office in a statement said World Health Organization (WHO) country director in Afghanistan Dr. Manuel de Lara accompanied the Japanese ambassador.
Nangarhar Governor Mullah Mohammad Naeem Akhund said Afghanistan and Japan enjoyed historical and friendly relations.
He said Japan had implemented vital and high-quality projects in Nangarhar and was still working in the province.
He assured complete security and they could travel to any area of the province at any time.
Japanese Ambassador Kuromiya Takayoshi said Japan and Afghanistan had good relations throughout history --a reason they maintained normal and continuous cooperation with Afghanistan after the regime change.
Remembering Japan Peace and Health Organization head Dr. Tetsu Nakamura, he said Nangarhar had special importance for Japan.
He said they would try to execute more projects in the field of agriculture in Nangarhar and fulfill Dr. Nakamura’s plans and wishes.
The Japanese envoy said he would share his proposals on Afghanistan’s needs, especially Nangarhar’s, in a meeting in Istanbul in the near future.
WFP’s Dr. Manuel De Lara also assured his organization’s continued assistance in the field of health in Nangarhar.
The Japanese ambassador is expected to visit projects Dr. Nakamura initiated in Nangarhar.
