PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Dozens of people were injured when a passenger bus crashed into a standing trailer in northern Salang area of Khinjan district of northern Baghlan province on Tuesday.
The accident occurred at around 3pm, said Baghlan traffic department official Qari Mohammad Nazir Abidi. He told Pajhwok Afghan News the 580 model passenger bus hit a standing trailer and as a result 36 passengers in the bus were injured.
He said the bus driver had fled and the injured had been taken to a nearby hospital.
Car park official in Khinjan district, Kaka Ghulam, told Pajhwok Afghan News the accident took place about six kilometers away from the district bazaar. He said a large number of people had been injured in the incident but no one died.
Ten injured people were brought to the civil hospital in Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital, from the scene, said Public Health Department spokesman Abdullah Malang.
He said he did not know the exact number of those injured in the accident, but most of the injured had been taken to the district hospital.
Last night, a vehicle skidded off the road in northern Salang, leaving five people injured including Public Works director of central Panjsher province.
Accidents on the route have increased mainly due to bad weather and careless of drivers.
