In his article, Nabil said Pakistan after coming into being in 1947 based on religious ideology had since been using religious extremism besides its security forces to protect that ideology.

He wrote during the former Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan equipped its security forces and laid the foundations of thousands of religious seminaries to recruit, train and arm the rebel forces.

He said there were 150,000 seminaries and 51 militant groups in Pakistan. Nabil said the Haqqani network and later became a strong arm of the country’s military intelligence.

Pakistan used the Haqqanis to strengthen Al Qaeda and intensify the war in Afghanistan against coalition and Afghan forces, alleged the former spymaster.

He also said that the Pakistani military spared the Haqqani network during the ‘Operation Zarb-i-Azab’ as the group was considered ‘good Taliban.’

Families, fighters and weapons of the Haqqani network were shifted to a  safe place before the launch of the operation, he claimed.

In his article, Nabil also criticized the unity government over initially trusting the Pakistani army and unilaterally agreeing to some matters even against the national interests.

Nabil shared some documents with journalists and claimed the documents proved how Pakistan interfered in Afghanistan.
