QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Some university professors, women, youth and members of civil society in northwestern Badghis province have stressed over strengthening peace by eradicating different types of violence and promoting unity.

This was stated during a Social cohesion and Conflict Prevention Session Organized by Pajhwok Afghan News in Badghis with financial support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Danish Embassy in Kabul.

Dozens of university professors, women, youth and members of civil society institutes attended the event.

The said that peace has established and efforts should be made to discourage family violence, tribal, ethnical and linguistic difference in the society because a peace that strengthened through unity proved durable and lasting.

Afghanistan witnessed decades of conflict in the past four decades that forced millions of people to migrate, thousands suffered casualties and state institutions disintegrated.

But after the fall of previous government on August 15, peace established in major part of the country and people are happy.

Junidulllah Ashkani, a civil society activist in Badghis, said: “End to 40 years of conflict in the county was the dream of everyone. Many Afghans have suffered in the past 40 years of war.”

He said interference of neighbouring countries, illiteracy, poverty, disunity, differences fueled by ethnic, tribal and linguistic grounds were major reasons behind continued conflict in the country, he believed.

He added: “Now that peace has established some problems in the form of family violence, differences still existed among people and its reasons are decades of conflict, cultural problems, poverty, lack of knowledge about religion and economic hardship.”

Ashkani said: “If violence not prevented it will generate more problems and would deteriorate social and family system. A peace that has established will be threatened.”

University Teacher Dr. Abdul Ali Hussaini said in order to consolidated peace there was need for nation-wide efforts.

He believed the elimination of tribal, ethnic, linguistic differences and family violence in society could help strengthen peace in the country.

He also urged promotion of women rights, unity and eradication of disputes that could soar to greater issues in society.

Religious Scholar Ali Mohammad Rahmani said: “Difference among people are fueled due to various reasons, but Islam has provided ways to resolve them and encourage people to unity, tolerance but unfortunately in our society there is lack of patience and tolerance despite the fact that all of us are Muslim.”

He said currently family violence, forced marriages, denial of hereditary rights and other legal issues are type of violence that Afghan societies are dealing with.

Mawlavi Rahmani said the holy Quran stressed over the elimination of violence and order people “Don’t indulge in dispute with each other, it will weaken you and would decline your strength and honor.”

He encouraged people to peace and urged them to jointly resolve disputes.
