HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The residents of Kashak Kuhna district in western Herat province said they were deprived of basic living facilities such as roads, schools, clinics and access to clean drinking water.

Kashak Kuhna district is situated 95-kilometres from Herat City, the provincial capital, and considered one of the far-flung districts of the province.

Mohammad Arif Jamshidi, a local resident, told Pajhwok Afghan New over the years their district was deprived from development and other privileges because it was situated away from the provincial capital.

He said one of their biggest problems they have is the none-existence of up to the standard road, adding that people faced several issues when it comes to the transportation.

Abdullah, another resident of Khashak Kuhna district, said massive distances and bumpy roads put them in trouble and most of the time they were unable to transfer their ill family members to the hospital.

The resident demanded the construction of district road linking Herat City and said this will resolve most of their problems.

Eng. Mohammad Mohib Qatali, director protection and maintenance, said last year 47 kilometres of this road was graveled, adding that graveled roads are useful till six months and after that it return to its earlier condition.

Governor Spokesperson Mawlavi Hamidullah Motawakel, said due to the lack of funds they were unable to asphalt the district road.

He hoped the Public Works Ministry would allocate funds for the asphalt of this road in the 1402 budget.
