KABUL (Pajhwok): A total of 201 Afghan families, comprising 1,002 people, returned to Afghanistan from neighbouring Iran and Pakistan in a single day, an official said Sunday.
Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), shared a report by the Commission for Addressing the Problems of Afghan Refugees on his X account.
According to the commission, 105 families, comprising 571 people, returned to Afghanistan and were registered through the Torkham crossing.
The commission said 97 families, comprising 543 people, were transported from Torkham to Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Kabul provinces, with more than 500,860,000 afghanis provided to cover their transportation costs.
It added that 946,000 afghanis in cash assistance was distributed among 115 families at Torkham, while healthcare and telecommunications services were also provided at the Omari camp.
Meanwhile, five families, comprising 30 people, returned to Afghanistan through the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province.
Officials said six families, comprising 38 people, were transported to various provinces, with more than 42,000 afghanis provided to cover their transportation costs.
The commission added that 44,000 afghanis in cash assistance was provided to seven families at Spin Boldak, while food, healthcare and telecommunications services were also provided.
According to the report, 81 families, comprising 353 people, returned through the Silk Bridge in Nimroz province. In addition, 679 individual travellers returned through the crossing.
Similarly, 10 families, comprising 48 people, returned through the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat province, while 86,000 afghanis was provided to the 10 families.
The Transport and Transfer Committee in Kabul also transported 18 families, comprising 111 people, to various provinces and provided them with 111,800,000 afghanis to cover their transportation costs.
Overall, the commission said 201 families, comprising 1,002 people, returned to Afghanistan, while 121 families, comprising 692 people, were transported to various provinces. Assistance was provided to 132 families, and 114 SIM cards from telecommunications networks were distributed.
