Covid-19 vaccination kicks off in Jawzjan, Badghis

QALA-I-NAW/SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Covid-19 vaccination has been launched in western Badghis and northern Jawzjan provinces.

Health officials urged the residents of the two provinces to get vaccinated against the fatal disease.

Surfacing in 2019, the Covid-19 virus spread across the globe and infected millions of people. Thousands have died from the respiratory virus while a huge number of people recovered.

The pandemic continues to threaten human lives, with medical experts having failed to find a proper anti-Covid-19 medicine.

Vaccination in Badghis

Maulvi Mohammad Asif Qanet, director of public health, told Pajhwok Afghan News that vaccination teams today (Sunday) formally launched the drive in all parts of the province.

He said the vaccination drive would continue for one month across the province.

He added males and females aged above 18 years must receive the Covid-19 vaccine. Female vaccinators also exist in the teams to vaccinate females.

Qanet said: “The vaccination will continue for one months and it will cover all the people in province. We expect the people to receive the vaccine.”

Abdul Baqi, a resident of the province, said since coronavirus was dangerous people from all walks of life most take part in the campaign.

Vaccination in Jawzjan

Dr. Abdul Ghani Samim, director of public health, about 100,000 males and females above 18 years of age would be vaccinated against Covid-19 across Jawzjan.

He added: “The drive involves 33 teams and each team is comprised of five female and five male vaccinators and led by 13 supervisors.”

According to him, the vaccination process will be carried out in mosques of villages for a period of one month, so that no person in villages remained unvaccinated.

He added people had been informed about the importance of vaccination by mobile health teams.

Abdul Samad, a resident of Yaka Bagh area of Shiberghan City, said: “It is good to get vaccinated against Covid-19 and I got vaccinated today.”

Moahmmad Sharif, another resident, said: “I experienced the pain of Covid last year, so today I want to vaccinate myself.”

Dr. Khales Qaderi, an official of the Covid hospital in Shiberghan, said since the beginning of the year about 2,831 people  visited the hospital to undergo Covid-19 tests and of them 153 persons tested positive.
