LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Some residents of Lashkagah City, the capital of southern Helmand province, complained against the deteriorated condition of a road in their locality.

The residents of Safyan locality in the limits of first and second municipality district said 50 kilometre road from Lashkargha City to Arghandab district was not constructed and this creates several problems for the people.

Lashkargha Municipality, however, said currently they had no budget for the uplift scheme and added that efforts would be made to gravel the road.

Abdul Baqi, the resident of Sayan locality, said from the past 20 years they had been living in this area and have their plots but the road in the locality was never built.

He said people have no proper road to travel and in addition the residents of the area struggled due to dust that spread in the air.

“Due to dust and dirty environment our children had suffered from respiratory and other diseases. He asked the government to build the road on priority bases.”

Mohammad Amin, another resident of Safyan locality, said transportation issues and environmental problems created problems for the residents.

He also urged the government to build the road and put an end to the problems faced by local residents.

Lashkargha Municipality Spokesperson Mohammad Tahir Abshar told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The Safyan Free Zone Road is 50 kilo metre till the Arghandab River. Around 10,000 families live in the area and their complains are justifiable but we don’t have funds for the construction of this road.”

He said efforts were on to generate funds for the construction of the road and the issue had been conveyed to the centre as well.
